Ph.D. studies at Georgia Tech

During the first semester I completed five of my eight required Ph.D. courses, plus the written part of the qualifyer examination, and agreed to work at the Human-Automation Systems Lab with Dr. Ayanna Howard.  The complete load was:
  • Introduction to Microfabrication Technology (ECE)
  • Solar Cells (ECE)
  • Aerospace Systems Engineering (AE)
  • Cognitive Engineering (AE)
  • Research Seminar (ECE)
  • Ph.D. Preliminary Examination (ECE)
  • Advisor seeking
ECE = Electrical and Computer Engineering
AE = Aerospace Engineering

The semester objectives were satisfactorily accomplished. This semester I'll be taking the MEMS course to learn about certain sensors and devices based on micro-scale technologies, which are already widely used in many fields of application, such as transportation, robotics, telecommunications, and which I intend to extend to biospherics as well.  At the same time, I am starting with dissertation hours towards the preparation of a couple of major publications.  Next, I will be looking forward to register for the last two required courses of my Ph.D.: Humans and Autonomy (Aerospace Engineering) and the ECE Professional Communications Seminar.

In following semesters I will be looking forward to register for extra-credit courses in robotics and control systems. My participation in these last courses have the purpose of allowing me to prepare teaching materials for the graduate program at Simon Bolivar University.

As a side note, I have also found a couple of books that help as guidelines for the expected skills and deliverables to be acquired/developed during what is called the 'doctoral metamorphosis.'  These books are the following:

If you know how to swarm in Amazon, then you will find many other good books.  I hope that other doctoral students find these helpful as well.

Thanks for visiting and reading!
